Welcome to Team Nidd!

The Nursery (Esk) and Reception (Nidd) children learn together as a team in the Early Years Foundation Stage. However, there are some times during the school day in which we learn separately.

Our Teachers

In our classroom, Mrs Carolan is our teacher.

Mrs Jones, Mrs Hudson, Mrs Elliott, Miss Knowles, Mrs Carlyle and Mrs Buttery also work with the Esk and Nidd class.

On a Wednesday we also have a fun carousel of lessons in our class. Mr Jeff teaches us PE and Miss Schofield teaches us Spanish. Mr Heath teaches us Music every Friday morning.

Our Day

Every morning we can share what we have been learning with our family members in the classroom before joining in with a group check-in and self-registering on our feelings board.

After check-in we have a Literacy or Mathematical focussed input.  We then choose where we would like to learn, either inside or outside.  We have many challenges in each area, so there is always lots to keep us learning.

Before lunch we all come together to learn our phonics letters and sounds to help us read and write.

After lunch we come together for another focus input, either Literacy or Mathematics and continue with independent challenges inside and out.

At home time we enjoy a story or a song together.

Other activities

Every term we always try to access cook school, this is where we make a delicious treat to share with our families. Sometimes there will be a small cost to this.

Supporting your child at home

On a Friday a weekly update is sent via our Bloomz app – this is something that family members can sign into.  This includes ideas of activities for you to do at home with your child.  As we learn new sounds and words these will be sent home in a sound and word wallet.  Every week, two reading books will be sent home to practice their  reading skills. These will be; one guided reading and one book of choice.

EExAT

All the children have their own electronic Learning journey on EExAT, it is a fantastic way of sharing information between home and school and we look forward to seeing your input. We share these regularly with the children in class.

Volunteers

If you can spare any time to come into the setting to help with baking, reading, gardening or even just to spend time with the children learning in the setting please let the school office know!

As always, thank you for your continued support in your child’s journey through school.
