At Staynor Hall, we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers and inspire curiosity and fascination about our local area and beyond. Our curriculum aims to study and question the impact of humans on the world and challenges our pupils to seek purposeful ways to conserve and protect our planet. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it through a progressive Geography knowledge-based curriculum. We believe in a hands on approach to learning which develops a conscientious attitude towards our natural surroundings.
Geography is taught through a combination of topic drivers and cross curricular links within other subjects. The planning and teaching of Geography is carefully mapped out over the course of the 2 year rolling cycle focussing on the knowledge stated in the National Curriculum. Our knowledge progression document ensures sufficient coverage of the knowledge taught and the children’s development during their learning journey at Staynor Hall. Our children also experience different countries and cultures through accessing the engaging platform Lyfta and topical assembly time.
Our aim is for the children to have an ‘Understanding of the World; people, communities and cultures, the world and technology’ by the end of the year.
Learning documented in Creative Curriculum books, in the Google Classroom and other online platforms will show a broad and balanced Geography Curriculum. Geography learning is found across the curriculum and acts as a topic driver. Our children are encouraged to be inquisitive, reflective and compassionate about the world around them, Due to this, our children know more, understand more and remember more Geographical knowledge and can use this knowledge appropriately for their year group.
