Headteacher designate announced

The new headteacher designate has been announced for Staynor Hall Community Primary Academy, which is due to open in September next year and will be run by York-based Ebor Academy Trust.

Mrs Gail Brown is currently executive headteacher at Brotherton and Byram Community Primary Academy, near Knottingley, which is also run by Ebor. Mrs Brown will be responsible for both schools initially and will divide her time between them as the new school gets up and running.

She said: “The new school will create a natural partnership with our existing school in Brotherton and Byram, which already has strong connections with schools in the Selby area.

“I’m really looking forward to bringing together a high quality team to deliver an excellent education provision in Selby. Ebor Academy Trust is a forward looking organisation that has children, their achievements and their enjoyment of school at its heart.”

Admissions for the new £5.5m school at Staynor Hall are being handled by North Yorkshire County Council, in common with other schools in the area, and are open for children starting Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in September next year. Children are also being accepted in a mixed Year 3 and 4 class.

The deadline for applications is 15 January 2016. When full, the school will have 210 places.

There will be a 24-place provision for two-year-olds and a 52-place nursery will also be opening next year.

Mrs Brown has over 20 years experience in primary education. She has taught every primary age group and has successfully led two schools leading one from Good to Outstanding and more recently a school from Special Measures to Good. Mrs Brown has also spent four years working within a local authority school improvement team and regionally as part of a national strategies team.
